Writing & Mailing Santa Your Christmas
Letter
What child doesn't want to send Santa a letter in the weeks before Christmas?
You can find, use and work through our letter
template if you're stuck for ideas on what to write to Santa - though even a simple letter with a
"Dear Santa" and a couple of lines, saying "thank you" and then "please" is as much as is really needed.
Mailing Your Letter
So, once you've written your letter, where do you send it to?
Remember to send it early enough - Santa has thousands of childrens letters to read and reply to, so write your
letter by early December, if at all possible.
So, where do you send the reply to your santa letter?
Santa's Address
Parents mailing a letter for their child may use this address:-
Santa Claus
The North Pole
H0H OHO
If you would like to ensure that your child gets a reply from the North Pole, then write and stamp a letter for
them. Enclose it in an envelope and mail to:-
North Pole Christmas Cancellation
Postmaster
5400 Mail Trail
Fairbanks AK 99709-9998
We are advised that it will then be stamped and mailed right back to your child, what a look of delight as they
see that special stamped envelope in the mail box!
If you are mailing from the UK, here's the right address to use:-
Santa
Reindeerland
SAN TA1
If you have a real fire, tradition has it that you should burn your letter on the
fire so that they turn into magic sparks for Santa to read ! (Of
course, this should only be done carefully & with adult supervision)
What Happens When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter ?
Each morning in the weeks before Christmas, the elves bring in all the sacks of
children's letters to read out to Santa - his eyesight's not so good, as he's getting older these days.
Santa listens to the letters from every child, before adding to his Christmas list
the gift he feels will be right for them.
Immediately this is emailed off to the elves who have the job of making and packing the present, ready to go on
Santas sleigh for the big job of delivering all those presents on Christmas Eve.
Rudolf and the other reindeer start to get really excited when they see the pile of presents growing, as they
know it's only days away that they'll be making their marathon journey.
About the North Pole
So, just where is the North Pole located ? Some people think it's in Finland, Greenland, Sweden or Alaska.
Do the reindeer live there all year round and what do the elves do for the rest of the year, when they're not
making children's toys and gifts?
In fact, the North Pole is the northernmost point on Earth, lying diametrically opposite the South Pole. When
you stand there, every single point is south of you !
During the summer there's sunshine for 24 hours, whereas during the winter, it's completely dark.
The good news is that Santa can set his own time, as there's no official time zone for the North Pole - it can
be set to any time he chooses. Probably good to give him a bit of fun as he and the elves get all those presents
ready in the darkness.
The upside is that during the summer, when Santa is resting, he has 24 hours sunshine, so why take a holiday
anywhere else?!
